— Advanced Pyrolysis Technology
The Science of Closing the Loop
Carbon Circularity in partnership with Technotherm SA designs and delivers end-to-end solutions for tyre and plastic waste using advanced pyrolysis technology — from feedstock sourcing through to product offtake.
— Core Technology
What is Pyrolysis?
Pyrolysis is the thermal decomposition of materials in the absence of oxygen. When tyres or plastics are heated in a controlled, oxygen-free environment, they break down into their constituent hydrocarbon molecules — which can then be captured as valuable products rather than being lost to combustion.
Unlike incineration — which simply burns waste to generate heat — pyrolysis recovers materials. The outputs of a pyrolysis process are liquid fuel oil (TPO), recovered carbonaceous solid, combustible gas, and in the case of tyres, recoverable steel wire.
This approach creates a genuine material loop: waste goes in, products come out. Those products displace fossil-derived equivalents — reducing both landfill burden and net greenhouse gas emissions.
— Why Pyrolysis Over Other Methods?
Compared to mechanical recycling (which degrades polymers), gasification (which requires high-purity feedstocks) or landfill (which emits methane indefinitely), pyrolysis offers the most commercially viable and scalable route for mixed and contaminated plastic and tyre waste streams at Australia’s scale.

Three Scales, One Platform
200kg
per hour
Small Modular Plastics
Designed for regional, remote, or on-site applications where full-scale industrial throughput is not practical. Ideal for mining camps, regional councils, or proof-of-concept deployments.
7.5t – 150t

Tyre Recycling Plant
Operational tyre pyrolysis system sized for mining operations and municipal tyre collection programs. Processes OTR and passenger tyres into TPO, recovered carbonaceous solid and steel.
1.6t

Industrial Plastics Plant
Full-scale commercial plastics recycling facility. Handles soft plastics, mixed plastics, and contaminated streams that mechanical recyclers cannot process. Multiple offtake streams active.

How the Pyrolysis Process Works

Feed Preparation
The system can be configured for whole-tyre processing, including whole passenger tyres and OTR tyres. Some feedstocks, including plastics and selected commercial tyre feedstock, may require size reduction or preparation depending on the system configuration and logistics.

Thermal Processing
Material is loaded into the pyrolysis reactor. Temperature is raised in a controlled, oxygen-free environment, cracking polymer chains.

Vapour Capture
Hydrocarbon vapours are drawn off, cooled through a condenser system, and collected as liquid pyrolysis oil (TPO).

Solid Recovery
Recovered carbonaceous solid and steel wire (from tyres) are recovered from the reactor — both with commercial qualification underway.

Product Offtake
TPO, recovered carbonaceous solid and recovered steel are sold to identified commercial markets — displacing virgin fossil feedstocks and closing the material loop.
— What Comes Out
Pyrolysis Output Products

Tyre Pyrolysis Oil & Plastics Pyrolysis Oil(TPO & PPO)
A hydrocarbon liquid fuel suitable for use as a diesel substitute, industrial fuel, or chemical feedstock. Primary revenue product, depending on the feedstock.
34–45%
of tyre input by weight

Recovered Carbonaceous Solid
Recovered as a solid from the reactor. Used in rubber, plastics, inks and coatings manufacturing as a partial substitute for virgin carbon black.
25–35%
of tyre input by weight

Syngas
Non-condensable gas stream captured and used on-site to fuel the reactor itself — improving system energy efficiency and reducing operating costs.
8–12%
returned as process fuel

Steel Wire
Recovered clean steel bead wire from tyre processing. Directly recyclable into steel manufacturing, with identified commercial markets
